Note
from Zoey: I was adopted from boxer rescue in the summer of '03. My
owners are not good at sharing my pictures with others so it took a
while to get one sent. I was a little under weight when I found my new
home but as you can tell from my pictures me on the left and my big
brother on the right should and will be going on a diet soon. I am older
than what I thought but nobody around here cares to much except Demon,
because I cant play as much as he would like. I cant get Demon to quit
chewing on my back legs either, but were best friends so we will be
just fine.
Note from the family: We were not
sure if getting a new dog was the answer, especially a dog from a rescue.
To tell you the truth I would NEVER do it another way. She is the best
and sweetest dog. Now the only problem we have is deciding if we have
time, and room in the bed for a third.

We
adopted Bowen (then known as Gatsby #2277) on 7/25 and he has
been a wonderful addition to our family. He is big and goofy, clumsy
and adorable, has tons of energy and loves to play, but above all he
is loving and lovable. I can hardly remember what life was like before
the big guy came to live with us. Most important of all though - he
and his new forever sister (our other boxer Hailie) have become the
very best of friends. Thank you so much for helping him find a good
home and for letting us be that home for him, Brian,
Kari, Hailie and now Bowen

Alana
Just wanted to update
you on Alana (aka Allie). We have decided we just can't live without
her! When we first met Allie we had no idea what we were up for. Allie
has stolen our hearts and the hearts of her new brother and sister.
When we were first asked to foster Allie I was a little nervous. Not
ever having any contact with a deaf dog I wasn't sure what I had signed
up for. To be truelly honest she is just like our other two dogs. She
responds to Rob and I the way Sampson and Sadie do. I know there are
a lot of people out there that feel sorry for deaf animals, but I want
to reassure everyone that deaf animals are very normal animals and have
no idea they are any different from the other dogs.
Allie contiues to learn new and exciting things everyday and is just
a blessing to have in our family. I would like to thank Tara and Chad
(Allie's first foster family) for giving Rob and I the chance to meet
and fall in love with this very special little girl.
I've attached a new photo of Allie with her new brother and sister and
will continue to keep everyone updated on her progress.

Well it has been 7
months since we adopted Cora. Time flies when you are having fun. Cora
brings a smile to our faces everyday. Thank you so much for saving this
four footed angel. We weren't sure about adopting a deaf dog. However
Cora makes it easy. She doesn't know she is deaf. She knows signs for
sit, stay, come, walk, ride, and no. That one she doesn't like to much
and she will turn her head. If she doesn't see the sign "no"
she doesn't hear "no", Smart dog! She has also learned to
"speak" for her treat. My son Jared was glad to see that Maya
and Alana were adopted also. He had suggested that we also adopt them
as well. He thought that it would be just as easy to raise 3 deaf dogs
as one.
Thank you again, Cora's Mom, Jeanette

enjoys going in the water! He LOVES food!! He even sleeps with us and
is truly a gift, a great addition to our family.

Snow
I
adopted "Snow" (June of 2003), she goes by Sylis now. She
came to me a bit under 70lbs, she is currently 80lbs of muscle and the
friendliest of dogs with other dogs, adults, and kids. She rarely leaves
my side and walks with me w/o a leash (that took some time). She will
stay in the yard as I am working out there with no threat of running
off. She is very well behaved and has truly become my shadow. People
are always commenting on her behavior and what a great looking dog she
is. Sylis is doing well. Thanks, Matt Asik

ask for a better little boy (well, I guess he isn't little anymore!).
He has become an important part of our family. I have attached a picture

Daisy 5/7/03
- Daisy (now renamed Ripley) is doing remarkable! Her broken toe is
healing well and her energy is back to that of a normal boxer. She is
such a blessing to our family! We were pleasantly surprised on how well
behaved she is. We have lots of play time together with her rope and
teddy bear. We are however still working on her protectiveness. She
is still not to keen on strangers but her progress is far better than
I expected. We were apprehensive of getting another boxer, considering
that Jeremy's first dog was a boxer and his baby, but Ripley is the
new love in our life. Thank you to Mary, Marita, Jeni and the entire
HOBO care team that made this possible. -- Katrina

Lola
Just wanted to give
you an update on Lola, the boxer we adopted in March of this year. Lola
has been a wonderful addition to our family and we couldn't be happier.
When we brought her home she was still thin and needed to gain weight.
She has put on about 15 pounds and looks great.
Lola is very playful and loves to
wrestle with "daddy" and play hard. At the same time she is
incredibly patient and very gentle with our two girls who are 9 and
5 years old. She even lets them dress her up in their play clothes!
Lately, the girls have taught her to "march" with them as
they make a path through the house. Lola stands on her hind legs and
leans on whichever girl is in back and walks along with them.
Lola loves to go on walks and run
at the park and in the canyon near our home. She still gets very excited
at the sight of other dogs while on her leash and we continue to work
on that. She plays very well with other dogs when off the leash, though.
We actually have to spell the word c-a-r in our
house to prevent her from getting too excited until we are ready to
leave.
Lola has jumped our back fence a
couple of times and we have to be careful that she is not outside alone.
Aside from that we couldn't be happier. She is a very affectionate and
loving dog and very well behaved. Our thanks to the Searfoss' for taking
good care of her before we got her.

Wyatt Going from 1 to 2 dogs
was a big adjustment for all of us. Wyatt's been a champ. He lost a
bit of weight since he's come here, down to about 90 lbs.He loves to
run, and he's a great jogging companion. Schatzi (our other boxer) was
initially reserved, but she has relaxed and she and Wyatt get along
really well. They play quite a bit, and Wyatt is ok with the fact that
she's the boss dog. He sleeps in the kids room with her each night,
and he sometimes acts as a watch-dog. He seems to be too sound a sleeper
to be really good at it, but it's obvious that he knows this is home
and he watches out for us and the kids. I won't say it been all "roses".
Wyatt is always trying to sneak food off of the table. For now we kennel
him during meals. He works very well on the leash, but when he gets
released he gets so excited he forgets almost all commands. He still
has some puppy in him, and he needs more attention than Schatzi. I think
it's making us better dog owners. We definitely wouldn't trade him.
Thanks for helping us find him. -- Mike & Kris Gates

ADOPTED* Powder 4-27-03:
I wanted to write with an update about our adoption of Powder. When
we first met Powder, it was evident to us that his first family loved
him very much, because he is such a gentle, loving puppy. We could tell
that he missed his family. It's been 3 weeks since we adopted him, and
he is growing closer to us every day. He loves our other boxers, Jenna
and Balto. They were a little jealous at first, but have adjusted very
well. He is incredibly playful, and can play with a ball for hours a
day, entertaining himself until the ball ultimately rolls where he can't
reach it. Our kids love Powder, and the feeling is mutual (he loves
them too...). Most of all, he has bonded with my husband, wagging his
tail 90 miles an hour whenever he sees him. We are grateful to Powder's
original family, his foster parents Phillissa and David, and of course
Marita. Thanks for all of the care that you gave to Powder, and for
the great advice. Powder is a great match for us, and we'll do our best
to make sure he continues to be a
happy boy.

BOSCO - now known as "Vegas".
This is a quick note from Bosco's (Vegas') new family to let you all
know how happy we are and how much we already love him! He is a great
dog, very loving. He has adjusted well to our home and our dog, although
he's not too good about sharing toys with her yet! He loves being in
the house and when he does go outside, he usually comes to the door
within a couple of minutes to see where we are and to let us know he
wants back in. He will be getting a dog door soon (this week), but to
our surprise (and Marje's!) he is housebroken and prefers to be inside.
Anyway, we just wanted to let you know that he is doing great and we
are so grateful to have him!

NIKKI
- Adopted Feb 2003 - Nikki
has become a beloved part of our household. We were not really ready
for a dog because our new house still has a dirt yard. However, Marita
contacted us about a dog that needed a foster home immediately, due
to the dog's incomaptibility with cats in her previous foster home.
We figured it would be fairly easy to watch Nikki for a few days until
an adoptive family came forward. A few days with Nikki was all it took
for us to realize that she was the perfect dog for us. She was a quick
learner and quickly bonded with both of us. She understood a variety
of commands and even let us know when she was hungry or needed to go
outside. More importantly, Nikki is a very loving, affectionate dog
that can't get enough cuddling. She also can't get enough car rides.
While we are still teaching her a few things like
getting over her leash aggression towards other dogs (she was previously
kept chained before coming to Ho Bo Care), Nikki is sweet and gentle.
Wiping her paws when the yard is muddy has been a small price to pay
for such a great gift in our lives. - David and Phillissa Rozansky

HERCULES
- Adopted Feb 2003
Hercules has been with us for over
a month now and he is a truly great boxer.
He and Cody have really bonded together and enjoy each others company
and
doing "boxer play." Hercules is a love sop and cannot get
enough petting and
affection which he gets on a regular basis. He has gained a few pounds
and he was really skinny when we got him. He just could not get enough
to eat - and ate like a huge vacuum cleaner but now he seems to be getting
the idea that there will be food on a regular basis. He and Cody had
some food issues at first as he was finished before she was started
and he thought that if she was not done, she did not want her food.
Now when he is finished, he walks away and lets her eat in peace. Hercules
likes to go in the car and both of them sit in the back seat and watch
out the windows as we do our errands. Good car protectors. Thanks so
much for letting us have him as he is terrific. Patricia and Don &
Cody and Hercules
