I just wanted to let you know that
Disco is doing excellent .The first couple of weeks were hard because
he wouldn't potty outside if it was cold .I think he was afraid I would
leave him outside,so I started going out with him to reassure him that
I wouldn't leave him out . After 3 weeks he knows where to go but I
think he pretends he doesn't so I will go stand with him in the cold...today
he actually got up and went to the bedroom door to let me know he wanted
out!! It looks like he has put on about 10 lbs and he is finally starting
to fill out and look like the beautiful boxer he was meant to be. He
is the most spoiled rotten thing ever. We(my boyfriend)and I, bought
him a bed, but most of the time in the middle of the night he decides
he is going to sleep in a chair or on our bed with us.He loves to go
bye-bye ,he doesn't care where either he just wants to go . About a
month ago I lost my 13 year old boxer. It was very difficult on me,I
missed him dearly. It felt like I lost my bestfriend. I wanted to get
a puppy ,but realized that I don't have the time to potty train etc.I
got on the internet and looked up breeders-it's sad to see how many
breeders there are for boxers across the United States when there are
already so many that are unwanted and abandoned. I called Marita .It
is so amazing to me how she is able to place the right dog with the
right person without ever meeting you .Disco is almost a spitting image
of my 13 year old when he was 4. And his personality matches mine to
a tee. He is the love of my life (don't tell my boyfriend :) I wouldn't
give him up for anything . It is sad that he has been through so many
difficult things in his four years. How somebody could try to kill him
is beyond my imagination .Now he has the opportunity to live his life
to the fullist with us. He still has his moments whe he is unsure and
untrusting of males, but he is learning that not everyone is out to hurt
him .Thank you Marita!!

Bogart -- *ADOPTED*
We picked up Bogart
just about 1 month ago to foster him in our home. His sweet eyes and
the fact that he was being housed in the kennel was enough for us to
know we had to bring him home. It has been quite a ride! Bogart wants
nothing more than to be loved and to have a home of his own. The problem
is that he had never been in a home before now. The stairs seemed like
a mountain and the coffee table a great place to sleep! Slowly he has
begun to understand what is "ok" behavior in the house and
what is best kept outside. After a recent bath, which he let me scrub
him exhaustively, he spun in circles for 10 minutes and then ran downstairs,
which he has now mastered, and showed everyone else in the house how
shiny his coat was and how good he smelled. Bogart's sense of loyalty
is obvious especially after his recent rescue of me in the bathtub.
I made the mistake of closing my eyes which he took for a sign that
I must be drowning. Of course I was just relaxing, but his gesture of
jumping into the bath to save me was heart-warming, messy, but heart-warming
all the same. Bogart has definitely suffered trauma in his life, broken
legs, jaw, welts etc, but now seems to be able to trust us a little
more everyday. Having him in our home has been challenging at times,
and at times I wondered if we would be able to keep him in our home
without him destroying it. Time, love, and kind discipline has allowed
Bogart (Bogie) to truly become one of our family. After the loss of
our last beloved boxer, Sampson, just a short time ago of cancer, I
didn't think I could love another dog. Bogart has shown me that even
though my heart will always ache for my dear Sampson, he will love us,
and we will love him, every single day. Thank you for the chance to let
us have Bogart in our home. He has truly helped heal our broken hearts
with his snuggles and kisses. He is a cherished new member of our family!

Hilda
(now Hildi) came to us 3 months ago and took no time to settle into
her forever home. Her stiff knee quickly loosened up in our big yard,
and she has learned to sit, get down, and stay. She loves to walk right
next to you and doesn't really need a leash (but has one anyway). Her
boxer neighbor, Duke, comes over to play several times a week, and they
run around the yard and slobber all over each other while they jump
and play. She loves to follow one of the family all around, and seems
to focus on one person for a while, then goes to someone else. She still
sits funny, but will always be a little lady. She's a "keeper".

We just wanted to give you an update
on Watson. We adopted Watson about a month ago. He is truly the dog
we were searching for. He is so loyal; we have to make him leave our
side, even to go potty. It is rare when I turn around and not have him
a step behind me. He is very well mannered, he gets his feelings so
hurt when he gets scolded, that he really only does something bad once.
He truly moved right in the moment he stepped into our house. He sleeps
in bed with my daughter, whom always refers to him as her doggy and
speaks about him often throughout her day. Watson and our blind lab
instantly became best buds. Watson has become a guide for him around
our two acre lot. We were so worried about our other dog and what he
may think having a new dog around, but he actually seems so much happier
having Watson around. Watson has overcome the urge to chase the cat
and now just pretends to not see him. He is so eager to please all the
time. Thanks for bringing him into our family.
Name: Rosie - *ADOPTED*
One of our volunteers
in Colorado Springs stopped in at a local shelter to pick up two abandoned
boxers. She sent an email with a photo of each of the boxers, her email
included the following note: " The second picture is of the
female. We named her Rosie. We are going to keep her. She is approx.
10-11 years old and has a deformed left leg. She is so sweet we decided
to keep her and make sure her last few years are happy, safe ones in
a loving home."
Update:
Rosie has been with us for 6 weeks now, and she is by far, the best
dog we have ever had. Throughout the years we have owned six dogs. She
knows her commands, is housetrained, can be alone for 8-9 hours a day,
uses the dog door, will not stray from our front yard when we are out
in the yard with her, she loves children and other dogs and is calm,
gentle and most of all so loving. When we come in the door after being
alone all day she actually grins from ear to ear when she see us. She
and my other boxer seem to love each other and share toys, food and
attention with no problems. Adopting an older dog was the right choice
for our family and I hope other families will consider giving an older
dog a second chance at a loving home.
Nancy & Family: Thank
you for allowing Rosie to stay with your family, your generosity has
touched the heart of Ho-Bo Care and we can only hope that more families
would give an older abandoned pet this opportunity. At times it is so
difficult to even find a loving home for a 4 year old boxer and is nearly
impossible to find a home willing to take in a boxer in her golden years.
Thank you againRosie was so lucky to find you.
We
would like to thank Ho-Bo Care for bringing Buster (on the right) into
our family. He has been a wonderful addition! Ozzy and Buster have already
become best of friends. The kids are crazy over him and so are we. Thank
you for bringing him into our lives. We could not of asked for a better
dog. Our special thanks to Marita as well! Sincerely,The

This
is just a quick note to tell you about Cassius. We adopted him
on June 23 with the help of Marita. He
is very, very well. He has a great personality and seems to be very
healthy and energetic. He eats like a horse and takes his vitamin E
and medicine mixed with his food (Avo-Derm out of his raised stainless
steel dishes). That red ring on his abdomen has disappeared after several
days of athlete's foot medicine application. He has met several of our
friends (no dogs yet) and accepts them readily. He knows that when you
pick up a leash it's time to get excited and go for a walk. As you know
we live in the mountains and have a lot of room to walk. He thinks he
is a bloodhound as he is constantly moving outside trying to detect
other animal life. He is most interested in the deer, rabbits, birds
and chipmunks. It will be some time before we can get him to calm down
and not try to chase everything. He has also learned where we keep the
dog toys and bones. When he wants a specific toy or bone he just goes
and fetches it out of the closet. Of course, at times he has several
out at any one time! In brief, everything is going very well with Cassius.
We are very happy to have him as part of our family.

Bubba:
Olde English Bull Doggie
We've had Bubba with our family for a little over a month now, and
boy what a month it's been! He's put on probably 10 lbs. and is healthy
and active. His brindle coat is thick and shiny. The vet said he is
about 6 months old and has all his adult teeth. He also said he may
not get much taller but will certainly get much thicker. We were concerned
at first that he wouldn't get along with our female pit mix and our
cat but everything has worked out fine. Him and Abby even cuddle and
sleep together now. Bubba tries to play with the cat and sniff him,
which the cat doesn't particualrly appreciate. But they get along just
fine, according to Bubba. The cat may feel otherwise. :) Bubba has never
tried to hurt the cat, he just plays a bit rougher than a cat enjoys.
Bubba is very sweet, very affectionate and is protective of his new
family. He loves to play in the back yard and loves chewing on feet,
any feet, on anything. He gives great big, wet, sloppy kisses from your
knee down to your foot then nibbles on the foot. He even likes baths
and showers. He likes riding in the car and barking at horses. He has
been a wonderful, and energetic, addition to our family.

Sugar *DEAF* *ADOPTED*
I
agreed to foster Sugar (now called Vanna White), but I was pretty sure
I wouldnt be able to give her up. I have now adopted her, and
she is such a kick. She copies everything that her brother,
Moses (my 8-year old male Boxer) does. Shes really bright, learns
fast, and wants to please. She has so much personality. Having a deaf
dog is not difficult. You can teach hand signals, and I think you find
that because the dog is deaf, he or she has a tendency to stay near
you in the house. They like to know where you are. The only thing you
have to be really careful of is that they can NEVER be off leash unless
and until you are absolutely certain you have trained him or her very
well, and you know without a doubt they will stay with you. And even
if you never feel comfortable with off leash, its really not a
big deal retractable leads are a great invention. Vanna is a
happy, healthy little girl, and Mo and I are happy to have her. Dont
be afraid of adopting a deaf dog -- they are just as loving and wonderful
as a hearing dog.
Name:
Bella -- *AMERICAN BULLDOG*
*ADOPTED*
Bellisima has more than lived
up to her name. She is beautiful inside and out. In the month or so
since Bella rescued our family, she has gone from not wanting to come
out from under the table to splashing everyone with her squishy kisses.
Originally, she did not particularly care for males but has taken quite
well to her Uncle Devin and Grandpa Tom and graciously greets other
friends and family that come to visit.
Bella and her boxer brother Cipollini (chip-o-leeni) and mini-schnauzer
sister Sula are best of friends. Where there is one, there are three.
Cipo and Bella wrestle and play and have contests to see who can run
through the doggie door fast enough to rip it off the hinges. So far,
they each have one victory. Maybe Santa will bring a newly designed
industrial strength doggie door. Bella and Sula attempt to play tug-o-war
but given that Sula weighs 13 lbs to Bella's 51lbs (yep, she is finally
putting on some good muscle weight), it would be better described as
a game of "Bella dragging Sula around the yard." Bella and
her siblings love hiking and swimming and chewing on big bones, or the
deck chairs, or the remote control... The hills and water-work are building
her shoulder and hip muscles nicely and all that chewing seems to be
helping with her malformed tongue. Her little ribs are still showing
but just barely. As a welcome gift to Bella, Cip, Sula and I bought
her a king size bed so we can all fit comfortably without one of us
(alright, me, but only twice) falling out during the night. She prefers
snuggling up with Cip, Sula and myself but has also become fond of sleeping
stretched out on her back. She looks at ease and is finally expressing
her puppy personality.
Thanks to HoBo Care for matching us up with Bella. She fills our heart
with her happy tail and kisses. We couldn't love her more.

Sloan *ADOPTED*
Dog aggression can be altered!!!
Many believe dog aggression cannot be fixed... I know otherwise! We
adopted Sloan (now Otis) about a month and a half ago. He is such a
sweet boy with people... but has had a problem with other dogs. Since
this behavior was unacceptable, I took him to "The Dog Club"
in Fort Collins with professional trainer Gail Clark. We attended a
class earlier this week in Loveland and within about 15 minutes, Gail
and I had Otis sitting calmly with about 10 other dogs nearby!!! I had
a "gentle lead" on him which Gail enhanced with a small lead
attached between the ring under the snout and the ring on his regular
collar so he could not pull the snout lead off. We also put a short
lead on attached to the gentle lead. Gail then put a "remote citronella
collar" on him. Each time Otis showed any aggression toward another
dog, I would "pop" his lead quite sternly and say, in a very
authoritative voice "no, no, no, no...." and he would get
a spray of citronella (dogs don't like the smell). I would continue
this until he turned away from the other dog and turned to me... at
which point he was a very good dog. He will probably never love other
dogs, but the behavior of aggression towards other dogs will cease.
Other than this problem, Otis is an absolute sweetheart... a snuggle
bum... attentive... and very willing to learn. As he trusts us more
and more with each passing day, his willingness to please grows. And
what a clown. His favorite thing to do is lay on the couch with us...
on his back... legs in the air... begging for a belly rub. Very, very
happy we have him in our lives!

I
just wanted to give you an update on Darla (AKA Shadow). I adopted her
from you on 1/23/04. I can't even express how much I love this little
girl!
As you can see, Darla (Aka Shadow) and Peetie are doing quite well together.
Darla has settled in quickly. These pictures show how their markings
are almost identical. I have to double take them to tell them apart!
By the way, Darla has the cropped ears. I call these two - "My
Little Rascals", since they were both named after the old black
and white TV show - The Little Rascals.
Darla continues to be a love bug. As she is getting healthier, her sweet
personality is coming through more and more. She is starting to show
expressions and is becoming quite vocal (talking, not barking). When
I come back from the store she "tells me all about it", when
I return (along with the typical Boxer "wiggle butt" dance).
It is so fun watching this quiet little girl speak up! She is so funny!
She has also gained enough weight that her ribs are hardly showing anymore.
Peetie is still a young wild boy and continually wants Darla to play
with him. She has taught him how to use his paws when they wrestle.
She also sits quietly and licks his face and ears. It is the sweetest
thing I have ever seen!
A year ago, when I lost my Boxer Winston, I would have never dreamed
I would have "two" rescue Boxers a year later. What a joy!!!
Marita, you were right! Having two Boxers is double the love!
Wishing you all continued love and laughter in your hearts! And guidance
to continue educating people to "be kind to the animals".
You do awesome work and I (along with all the rescued Boxers) thank
God for your organization! It must me a great feeling to know how many
lives you have touched (Boxers and their new owners).

I just wanted to give you an update
on Sam. We initially provided a foster home for Sam but I knew I couldn't
part with him. When Nancy brought him to us he was shy, scared and so
nervous. You would never know that now. He weighed 70 lbs when we first
got him, he's now a very happy 83 lbs and as you can see is a very handsome
brindle. He has bonded so well with our other Boxers (Buster is 1 1/2
and Suzie is 11). They are all GREAT together. Sambo loves a ball. He
has successfully demolished every ball in the house. He LOVES to play
fetch. He is soo good at catching the ball. He also loves to chase a
Frisbee and we recently found out he loves the water. His favorite place
is our bed. He is a wonderful dog and we feel so blessed to have him
in our family. He has done wonders with Buster. Buster was your typical
rambunctious, goofy, playful puppy, Sambo (as we now call him), has
calmed him down. It's amazing...I honestly can't imagine life without
them. Boxers are truly very special animals...our lives are so much
better with them in it. - The McKenna Family

her she was special. After a very short introduction to my two white
males, she took off running and playing like she belonged here. She
stole our hearts and has continued to steal the hearts of everyone who
meets her.
We signed adoption papers on our little girl after a few days and she
is no longer looking for a forever home. She has her forever home with
us and we just adore her. She is well mannered, loving (super with kids),
gets along great with my white male boxers Rex and Rocky, learned to
use the doggie door almost immediately, and is such a snuggler. As for
the cats, she could care less about them - she has two handsome males
to play with.
As for fostering, well we are at our limit for dogs to own but are still
helping Hobo Care whenever we can. Thank you Marita for bringing Heidi
to us. She is precious and very much loved, just look at the picture

Hi, this is Maddie, and I just wanted to write to tell you how well
things are going at my new home. I have been here for almost two months
now, and things are going great. Those who saw me when I was first brought
here would not believe I am the same dog. I was very skinny, sad, and
lonely when I first came to my new home to live with my new brother,
Oscar, and my new mom, Amie. My mom and Oscar took real good care of
me, feed me lots of food, and gave me lots of play time. Now I am even
getting a little chubby, but mom tells me I still look adorable. Oscar
has been going to training classes, and then he and mom come home and
we all work on what she and Oscar learned at the class. Both of us are
getting really good at learning
everything she teaches us and she rewards us both every night with a
full body massage (this is HEAVEN compared to where I was before). Anyway,
Oscar and I were just about to settle in and cuddle up on the couch
for the night. I have been meaning to write to tell everyone how happy
I am now, but I have just been so busy living my new life. I am SO thankful
to all the wonderful people at Ho-Bo Care, especially Karen and Marita!
I want to thank them for giving me hope and a new life. I know that
Amie, Oscar and I will live a LONG happy life together. Take care and
send all the dogs my love and prayers that they find good homes where
they will be loved and taken care of. Boxers are the best dogs in the
world and we deserve the best homes. I know I am thankful for mine!
Thanks for everything. I'll keep in touch as much as I can. love, Maddie,

and I get along well with the grandchildren a 1 yr. old and an 8 yr.
old. I think it is great that my mom and dad take responsibility for
any mischief I have gotten to and they recognize that I am truly a puppy
at heart and don't blame me. I did show them that I can and will protect
my new home on two occasions when a stranger came to the door. They
told me they are going to take me to school to help me through this
aggressive stage so that I won't get into trouble.
I guess the only annoying thing I have to report is that they have several
rabbits MY backyard and I can't seem to catch them but that is just
for now I am getting stronger and faster every day.
Thanks for my new home, FANCY

Name:
Layla **ADOPTED**
Dear Hobo Rescue, I just
wanted to send some updated photos of Leyla, the little pup we adopted
in mid January. Despite her rough beginning, she is a fantastic dog.
She has gained quite a bit of weight and is starting to grow a little
bit. She is so loving and loyal to both myself and my husband and her
favorite person, our other dog Luca. She has adjusted well here, as
the pictures will show, and we are so glad we were able to add her to
our family.
Name:
Boots **ADOPTED**
From Tyler, 8 years
old: We adopted Boots, and renamed her Dixie, after a book I read in
school. Dixie is a really good dog, and has gotten to know us very well,
and its only the third day! She still has her kennel cough, but
were working on that with medicine. She follows me all over the
place, and comes when I call her because shes smart and knows
her new name already. She loves to jump on my bed and sleep real close
to me at night. I like that. And she loves to be petted. Dixie is very
curious, and likes to look out the window at whats happening in
the neighborhood. She loves all my friends, and licks off our faces
every chance she gets. The more we laugh, the more she licks! I love
my new dog Dixie.
From Tylers Mom: Tyler and
Dixie are inseparable already, and I know they will have a special relationship
for many years to come. There is something wonderful and magical about
the connection between a boy and his dog that one cant
help but smile. Many thanks to Marita and HO-BO Care for providing the
magic -- our very special gift, and the newest addition to our family
-- Dixie girl.
