Hello
Marita and HoboCare, We
have had Sandy for 3 months now and just wanted to give you a quick
update. We are first time dog owners and have just loved Sandy. She
has been an amazing dog and a perfect match. We are constantly asking,
"How could anyone have given her up?" When we bring her
out and she meets our family and friends they all ask the same thing.
As you can see from the pictures, she gets plenty of love from the
kids and in return has been so good to them. She is loyal, playful,
patient, and obedient. She has claimed our son's bed as her own bed
and we are all just fine with that! Thanks for what you do!
It
was a rocky start with our sweet Lily (formerly Sarabi).
We initially got her because Max (our 9 year old male) needed a companion.
While we take him every where we can and give him lots of love he
seemed so in need of a friend we though another boxer would be perfect.
So, then came Lily. She was skinny, scared and super destructive when
we were away. It was really touch and go on whether we could keep
her or not. She had major seperation anxiety and didn't understand
how to let us know she needed outside. She had probably been used
as a puppy farm breeder and was much worse for wear. Now after 8 months
she's filled out, playful and feeling like one of the family. She
knows the rules of the house now, too! She loves to snuggle and box
and when she is getting hugs snores loudly to show her appreciation.
We are still working on the seperation anxiety but she's so much better
than she was even 3 months ago. It takes time, but she's so sweet
and worth it. I've attached some photos of her.

We've
just adopted Derby a little more than a week ago,
and we can't begin to describe the joy he's been to our family. He's
a great addition to our family, and his disposition with our other
2 boxers (Sajja and Ali), is perfect. He fits in like he's been with
us from the beginning. Thank you H0B0 Care, and a special thanks to
Marita and Travis for making the proces so easy!

First let me say
this "yes, Marita you were right" and once more, "yes,
Marita you were right". Ok, now that this declaration is made
I can update everyone on Rusty and Gracie.
Gracie and Bogie
just bonded so quickly when they first met that we were hoping for
the same reaction with another baby boy. As Marita reminded me, that
was a once in a lifetime happening. Our sweet Bogie, as some may remember,
didn't like any person he didn't know and definatley not any dog.
Period. We took a huge chance with Gracie (then 6 months) and were
ready if Bogie rejected her. The absolute opposite happened. He began
to clean her, correct her when she got into mischief, and cuddle her
like we could have never imagined. When Bogie passed, we were all
grieving so terribly that I thought we should just have one boxer.
Gracie didn't eat for a week and just laid in Bogie's bed all day
and all night. It was clear her heart was broken, as were all of ours.
My husband, Shawn, kept pulling up the Hobo site everynight and "accidentally"
leaving pictures of all the babies on his screen saver. My will was
broken pretty quickly! Rusty's
picture, on the HoBo site, made him look like a little bitty baby.
Since Gracie has been so timid after our sweet Bogie passed, we thought
a little boy might be a good fit. Well, you know how in rear view
mirror's it says objects may be closer than they appear. Rusty was
BIGGER than he appeared! He is a HUGE baby.
Gracie didn't really pay much attention to any of the boys when we
went up to Alpine and I was thinking that she just didn't want another
boy in her life. After many conversation with Travis and
Marita, we agreed to have Rusty spend the night to see if they could
get along. I wish I had a picture of Gracie's face when I opened the
door and Travis brought in Rusty. She looked appalled and disgusted.
Gracie is really a little beauty and Rusty is her beast. She is petite,
quiet, has a soft mouth, and gently cuddles at night. Rusty, on the
other hand, is massive, sloppy, and has cheeks big enough to store
a few extra meals. I think the whole opposite's attract thing came
into play after a while.
When they both realized that Rusty was here to stay, they began to
hang out, share bones, and eventually Rusty's new big bed. He is so
big that we had to put her bed and his together so they could fit.
He is absolutly a joy! They play for hours and hours at a time. Only
when they are hungry or thirsty do they consider coming in the house.
They now play so much that they take 2 naps a day! Rusty weighed in
at about 65 pounds and is thought to be about 1 yr 3 months which
makes Gracie the older sister at 1 yr and 5 months. He hasn't warmed
up to the whole bath thing, but Gracie still loves hers. He watches
her in the bath with alot of curiosity, but hasn't made the move to
get a bath himself. That is about it for now. They are both happy,
eating like pigs, and playing all day long. Thank you Travis and Marita.
Merry Christmas!!! The Corcoran's
Just
wanted to update you - Zoey has been a wonderful addition to our family
(and she has kept Kojack very busy). These are the two sweetest dogs
you would ever meet. We are still shocked that ANYONE would give up
these boxers.
Of course, we are
very thankful to have them and we just wanted to tell you Happy Holidays

Deb
adopted Daisy from Ho-Bo care in 2005. I think that Daisy is an amazing
success story and should be shared. Deb has given her such a warm,
active, and loving home. Deb loves Daisy more than life itself. She
cares for her with such unconditional love and provides constant attention
to Daisy. Daisy was abandoned and hit by a car. Daisy had discs shattered
and bones broken. She had a hard life. She now lives with Deb, goes
for walks every day, and loves to romp around in the snow. Her most
recent accomplishment is her 58 minute 5K walk! Here are some cute
pictures of Daisy Duke. Daisy truly is a success story and has brought
a lot of smiles to the lives of many people.
Hi
to Laurie and Marita and everyone else involved with HOBO Care. Just
wanted to share an update on Jericho (we call him
Jerry now), a boxer/amer. bulldog mix we adopted from you guys about
2 months ago. He has been a great addition to our family. Jerry has
adjusted very well, he gets a nice walk every day, plenty of love
and... obedience training! He started as a dog that would pull you
down the street (he is VERY strong!) making walks un-enjoyable and
he would ignore any command you gave him. With our time and effort
and the teachings of Chris at Old School Dog Obedience, he is quickly
becoming a very well mannered boy! It is now a joy to take him for
a walk and we're proud to show him off! He loves to play ball and
tug or just curl up and snooze! He is also wonderful with our kids
(ages 4 & 6). Our daughter (4) has found a good listener and confidant
in him. She will si t in the backyard next to him on the grass just
talking... and talking... and talking... to him while giving him grass
and twigs to sniff. He seems to thinks that's pretty okay too, life
is good! (Attached is a picture of Rachel and Jerry sharing the doggy
bed.) Thank you for all you do to help these dogs. Sincerely, Aimee
& Kevin Miller, Rachel, Greg and Jerry
Here
is a photo of Hoover. I had some trouble getting a good picture because
he wanted to play every time I knelt to take the photo! Beth
To
all of the volunteers at HO-BO Care, and to Marita: Thank you so much
for allowing us to adopt Otis (Brando). We adore
him, he is part of the family and we cannot believe how well he fits
in! We didn't know a male dog could be this sweet. He is so gentle
with the kids, so patient. He loves to play ball and tug-o-war; he
would play all day if we let him. We laugh every day. He brings so
many smiles into our family. We thank God for you and all you do to
get boxers into good homes. Thanks again. Marita also said that the
shelter wanted to put Otis (Brando) to sleep! I cannot imagine why.
We ask ourselves regularly: why would someone give up a dog like this?
He is great with kids, even neighbor kids, he loves to play, but can
be calm too, he is protective at the appropriate times, seems fine
with other dogs, does well while we are not home, doesn't run away
when we open the front door, walks well on a leash, gives lots of
kisses every day. What else could we ask for in a dog?! I'm sending
another email with pictures so you can see. Thanks again, and God
bless you!! Sincerely, Kara and Scott Grabendike and family, especially
Otis!
I
just wanted to give an update on Simon. I adopted
him from the HoboCare at the beginning of this year, and he is doing
wonderful! I could not imagine life without him. He is always the
center of attention wherever I take him, and he loves every second
of it. Furthermore, he is now inseperable with Sadie (my five year
old beagle). They are pretty much attached at the hip! Thanks again
to HoboCare for providing me with such a great companion!! Nathan
Hudson
Adopted
Tahoe a year ago and he has become the complete joy
of our lives...in fact just submitted an application to adopt from
you all again!!! Tahoe knows he is really human and we have all accepted
what he has known all along...right down to eating his dinner beside
us as we eat ours!!!! He is a bed and couch hog but we wouldn't have
it any other way!!!!
Hi,
just wanted to let everyone know that Zoe AKA JoJo
is doing great! She is the friskiest boxer I've ever seen! She was
a Hurricane Katrina victim and when I adopted her she still had mange,
which caused almost all the hair on her back to fall out. I adopted
her in April and by the end of May all of her hair had grown back.
Zoe is now healthy, happy and forever energetic...she is the sweetest
girl! Champ, my six year old male boxer, absolutely LOVES her. Zoe
likes to bite him on his ankles to provoke him to play--and it works.
Her other favorite activity is to kamikaze off the deck into the grass--she's
quite a leaper! I absolutely adore her and I am so happy that my home
was chosen to be her new forever home! And thankyou very much to the
generous family who fostered her before I adopted!!! The Silva Family
I
just wanted to give you a little update on Bubba.
He is doing so well! He slide right into our home like he has always
been here. He is fantastic with both our Yorkie and our Rottie. Bubba
and Lola (the Rottie) were even cuddling the first night he was home.
Lola is so in love with him! Usually she is very passive around new
dogs until she is sure they won't hurt her (I know! And she calls
herself a Rottie!) but with Bubba she was comfortable right away.
This morning I caught them sharing a food bowl and Lola has given
him full access to all her toys as well as her bed. He is so good
with the other dogs. There hasn't been anything close to an issue.
He even leaves the cat alone! Thank you so much for finding us such
an amazing dog!!! Bubba is so sweet and cuddly! He is not a minute
of trouble and he is very smart. We found he knows how to sit, down,
stay, shake and beg!! We are working on getting better on a leash
so we can start taking runs together soon. I'm not quite sure how
we got along without him all this time! Here are a few pictures taken
the day after he came home. Alright, its a lot of pictures, but he
is so darn cute that I can't help but to take lots! Thank you again
Marita! And thanks to everyone at HOBO care for helping us make out
family complete! The Vlcek Family

Hello-
It has been about a year now since adopting Keara
from Hobo Care. And we are giving you an update on how she is doing
along with a picture. Keara is doing very well she is an awesome dog.
Very sweet, loving and gentle. We have just bought our first home
and she loves to play in the big yard. She is such a great dog. We
cannot begin to tell you how wonderful it is to have her. It has been
such a great experience that we again are starting to talk about wanting
to adopt or foster another boxer from Hobo Care. The picture is of
our son who is now 2 1/2 years old with Keara laying on his lap. Thank
you again so much for the great opportunity for having Keara. The
Howell Family
Hello!
We just wanted to let you know how Cooper (formerly
known as Isaac) is doing. We were very hesitant to adopt a rescue
dog, not knowing his history, especially with a toddler at home. We
were actually on a waiting list with an incredible breeder but after
talking to Marita, she convinced me that we needed an older dog not
a puppy. Boy, am I happy we listened to her! Cooper is so amazing
and so smart, I couldn't of asked for a better dog. From the first
day he came home, we knew he belonged here with us. It was love at
first sight and it was as if he was just waiting to come home with
us. Thank God for us that his former owner gave him up. He is so incredibly
gentle with our 2 1/2 year old and yet loves to play rough with our
13 year old. He loves to cuddle and be loved yet is still very protective
of us all. He goes with us everywhere and he is like our 3rd child
(most the time he is better behaved then our 2 1/2 year old) and we
cannot imagine life without him. On top of his wonderful personality
and temperament he is so beautiful! Thank you so much to everyone
at Ho-Bo care for all that you do and thank you Marita for blessing
our family with our gorgeous boy! The Duckwall Family
I
adopted Polar back in October 2005. He has been very
spoiled and loved by both myself and Stella (my brindle boxer). They
are nearly the same age and as you can see have taken over my bed
and everywhere else I go in the house. They follow me everywhere and
love to lay right on top of me! Polar loves Stella, he follows her
everywhere she goes (she is usually following me) he doesn't want
to be without her. They are always on the "lookout" for
each other when one of them get's locked in a room or is doing something
devious. If I only see one dog I know the other must be in trouble.
Polar has put on 25 plus pounds since I got him and has graduated
from training school. He is much more behaved than Stella! I can't
imagine them being happy without each other. Thank you for the such
a cute, loving, well-behaved dog.
-- Keirsten
We
are so thankful to have added Samantha to our family!
She is such a joy and she has fit in really well from day one. She
loves lots of attention, playing tug a war, cuddling with her brothers
(our other two dogs), and going for our long walks in the morning!
She has really adjusted well to having a good home, and we just wanted
to thank you guys for blessing us with her! You guys are an amazing
bunch of people that do such great things for these dogs. Thank you
again, and call me when you need help with volunteering or anything.
Lauren, Nathan, Ralph, Rocky, and Samantha Wright
My
name is Dugan. My forever home asked Hobocare to
do a success story about me. I am so happy and I love my new home.
Here is my mom (Verona) giving me a big hug. She loves me so much!
She says I am the best boy ever. I go everywhere with my mom and I
am very attached to her. I am very protective of her too.
Here
I am relaxing on the couch with my new friend. We get together and
play every once in awhile. I have a nice big back yard and we love
to run and play outside together. Then we come in to relax for awhile.
Here
I am getting comfortable on the couch. I am so lucky to have such
a good home! I have tons of toys and bones to chew on. You can see
by these pictures I have the life of a KING. It’s great to have
someone who loves me so much! And I love my mom more that you will
ever know. Big hugs and kisses!
Love from Dugan
I
just wanted to drop you a line with these pics to let you know that
our Cash ("the Money Dog") is adjusting
very well and is our 4th child.
These pics are with our two youngest a few months ago and with our
oldest, Magdalena, last week at Lake McConnaghy in Nebraska. Cash
was the best behaved of our children and the one who had the most
fun on our little vacation! We have almost gotten his thyroid under
control, and his fur grew back, as you can see in the pics! His training
is coming along nicely, and I think the bolting instinct has just
about been quelled. He's a good boy and wants nothing more than to
please his family. He is much loved and we are so grateful to you
for bringing him to our lives. Soon we'll send over a photo for the
calendar, if you have room for another! Thank you again, Marita, for
our Cash. -Joy Castillo
Just
wanted to get you an update on Bode AKA Parker. My
parents adopted him last August and he is doing wonderfully. He has
such a sweet demeanor and he just loves everybody. He went on his
first camping trip about 2 weeks ago and he thought he was in heaven.
I took this picture of him at the lake, he was enjoying the view and
he absolutely loved digging in the sand. He is such a wonderful addition
to our family, we love him very much! Thank you again, Rhonda, Ron
and Susie
We
thought that you needed an update on Daffy, Bob and George - now Daffy,
Peckanova and Peck-n-stuff. They are all doing well and have
blended into the family, Daffy thinks that she runs the joint and
yells at us everytime we are outside because she wants food or attention,
the Peck and Peck chase bugs and act goofy.
We
have had Champ and Chloe' for 2 years now and it
seems like yesterday. They are such a big part in our family and I
think they would agree. Our son who was a little nervous when we brought
home our 75 lb. boxer Champ. Champ loved to play and felt that when
he played he needed to put his feet on our son's shoulders. After
a
few
days Champ is our son's buddy and sleeps on his bed every night. If
our son is gone for a couple of days and we pick him up Champ is the
first one he looks for and then they play a good game of basketball.
Chloe' our female is a Daddy's Girl. She loves to crawl up in my husbands
lap and go to sleep. Thanks HoBo Rescue for all you do. You made a
positive difference in our lives when we added Champ & Chloe'
to our family. -- The Hughes
Family
I
just wanted you to know how happy we are with Lexie (formally
Bebe – adopted in 2005). I thought I would share some pictures
with you. When I spoke last, you were upset as many adoptive parents
were not taking care of the boxers. I want you to know & show
you how much we love our dog. THANK YOU for doing what you do and
for being an advocate for these dogs. If you ever need us to view
a fence height, interview, etc., please let us know. Lexie is loved
tremendously. Everyday, our 2 ½ year old son gives her a hug
before we head out to daycare/work. She LOVES other dogs, especially
boxers, and seeks them out at the Cherry Creek Dog Park/Trial. She
has filled out and is very muscular and fit. She does not require
a
leash
when we walk her as she is always within two steps from us on the
sidewalk. She could not have been a better fit for our family. Unfortunately
it is still apparent someone extremely mistreated her. She cowers
to any male she does not know and hides behind my legs. We have worked
tremendously with her to know that she is safe now and that we would
never hurt her. She is such a well behaved dog and we are thankful
we can give her the life she deserves which is rich in love and very
spoiled. Take care and thank you very much! - The McCollough Family
Hi
Everyone! I have been walking the HoBos for many months now. I was
a renter when I began volunteering so adoption was out of the question.
I was SO HAPPY when Sandy asked me to join the walking team. I have
been walking them on Saturdays and Wednesdays weekly ever since I
began.
My husband and I bought our first house one month ago. We are still
very excited about this change. The first thing I thought of is that
I could finally adopt when the right boxer came along. I was expecting
it to take months! I am a woman who relies on her gut feelings and
I hadn't met a boxer yet that triggered that feeling...until Wednesday.
When I went to Hermosa to do my Wednesday walking, I asked for Tillie
as my first walk. The moment she came out our eyes met and I knew
my days of not owning a boxer were over. There was something about
her and my gut feelings were on fire! We walked, hugged, talked, and
it was a natural fit. That afternoon I went home and thought about
her nonstop! I was smitten! I talked to my husband and he said "if
you want to get Tillie, go for it." The search was over. I couldn't
hardly wait to see her again on Saturday! I was there an hour early
because I was so eager.
While walking I knew she was the one. After a little chat with Marita,
we were in my car on the way home. I cried the whole way because I
was so happy. Words just can't explain how I felt yesterday on the
way home.
We came home and she did her little bean dance all through the house!
I didn't know a dog could climb stairs with her head near her rear,
but she did it! It was so cute and funny. We then went to the store
to get the everything, as I didn't have anything. She was the best
girl, just loves to shop!
Since being home all of 26 hours now she was my pillow last night,
my jogging partner this morning, my shadow today, and quite the heart
breaker with my husband. I think this was meant to happen, when you
know you just know and I knew in the bottom of my heart that she was
put here for me to love.
Jennifer and Tillie (who is now responding to Honey...we'll see!)
I
wanted to send a photo of Harley and a little update.
We adopted Harley (aka A.J.) in 12/04. He has been wonderful with
our grandchildren who are now 1 and 2. About 9 months after we adopted
him Harley and I started in a service dog training program. I am training
him to be my service dog! The training program will be about 2 years
(or longer) so we are early into the program. He is doing beautifully,
I am still working hard to learn what I need to do! When we got Harley
he weighed a MERE 66 pounds, he is now up to 82 pounds and he hasn't
filled out all the way yet. There's a reason why lap dogs were bred
to be small and why didn't someone tell boxers that they aren't lap
dogs! I had promised Marita I would send a photo so I have attached
one! -- Sharon
Hi
this is Jonathan, I adopted Percy a couple of months ago and I wanted
to give you a little progress report. Well we changed her name from
Percy to Daisy because our other dog is named Duke.
So its Daisy and Duke…. She is doing great, I could not have
asked for a better dog. We are currently in puppy training with Vicky
at www.awaggingsuccess.com
and she’s doing great. I wanted to send in some recent pictures
but Im going to send in more later once she hits her growth spurt.
We are currently learning how to cross rivers. Although this is proving
to be vary challenging because Daisy would rather do anything then
get wet. She even walks around puddles when we go for walks. She is
totally a high maintenance chick.. Thanks so much for the great dog….
I
adopted in March of 2004.....Jackson He was so skinny....still skinny
and neurotic but a good boy. His name is Jacques now.

Princess
couldn't have found a better home -- she even has her OWN couch and
her OWN pillow!
"Our thanks
to all who prayed for Princess to find a loving family. We were praying
for another precious boxer, after our Rosie went to the Rainbow Bridge.
So all our prayers were answered." -- Princess' family.
We just wanted everyone
to know how greatful we are for Marita and all that donate their time
to Hobo Care. We adopted a 1 year old white boxer just five days ago
who was very abused but has a happy ending to her story. Girllie is
her name. We saw Girllie for the first time Monday March 20th at a
shelter. My husband, our two boys, our other boxer Louie and I went
to the shelter to see Girllie. It was love at first sight for all
of us. Girllie being abused and in the shelter for two and half months
was excited to see us but wasn't real sure about Louie. Like most
dogs she snarled at him and at that time the shelter told us we were
unable to adopt her because she snarled at Louie. We were sent home
and let me tell you it was a very quite ride home and our hearts went
out for poor Girllie. Girllie has had both of her ears cut with scissors,
stabbed in her back with some sharp object, had her dew claws ripped
out and has been burned with acid. When we got home that evening we
started looking at the ads in the paper when we came across one out
of the hundreds that caught our eye. The ad said young female boxer
and it gave a number. We called and it was Marita who answered. We
asked if they had any white female boxers and Marita had told us that
she was going to be getting one the next day from a shelter that had
called her that evening and said to come pick her up or she would
be put to sleep. God really had his hands in this and wanted Girllie
to have a good home and a great life that she so truly deserved. We
were able to pick up Girllie the following Thursday and things have
been great! Her and Louie couldn't be any better friends. They play
non stop! She has enjoyed having her own bed, couch, toys and a family
that has nothing but love to give her. She truly has been a blessing
to us as well as Marita. Thank you just doesn't say it! May God bless
Marita and all the other angels who donate their time and money to
save wonderful dogs such as Girllie. If it wasn't for Hobo Care Girllie
wouldn't be blessing our lives and for that there just isn't any words
to show or tell how greatful we are to Marita and Hobo Care. You have
completed our family! Lots of Love ~ James, Stephanie, Tyler, Hunter,
Louie and Girllie!
Hi
Maritta and rest of Hobo Care, Just wanted to update you on Shelby
(Delia previously) she's doing great ,we love her to death. I was
reading your success stories and I didnt see Shelby up there anywhere
-here is acouple of pictures of Matt, Shelby and Bouncer he's our
new family member that we had gotten from a friend that thought he
was to much work. I hope you can put up Shelby's picture, she's the
best little dog weve ever had. I would like to help in showing how
wonderful boxers are with kids..Thank you again, Tami Marchena
Just
wanted to send in an update on the wonderful and entertaining young
male boxer that we adopted about 3 weeks ago. His name was Smiley
on the Hobo website, but he’s since been renamed. He now goes
by Honor. This little boy is such a joy ! He joined a family that
had a built in 2 yr old boxer sister, Scout. ( Scout’s Honor
) They absolutely fell in love from the get go, I think. The picture
that I sent in is of the both of them. He’s the fawn on the
left. They are constantly loving on each other….well, loving
on each other, licking on each other, wrestling with each other, and
of course, boxing each other. It’s non stop in our house. It’s
the most wonderful thing in the world. We totally ‘boxer proofed’
the entire house all the way down to the basement. They have their
own huge playpen down there and they are livin’ large ! But
their favorite thing to do is lay by the fire at night and groom each
other. It’s absolutely hilarious. By the way, Honor is a little
snorter, so whenever he comes up to you for some lovin’ and
pettin’, he’ll do his little farm pig impersonation first,
so that he gets you laughing, and then he pretty much gets anything
he wants. He’s got that goofy tooth thing goin’ on and
he is such a comic. When we want a little cheering up, we have to
look no farther than this little guy’s face. He’s in hog
heaven, as well as his sister, Scout, and his two Mom’s. Thank
you HoboCare, for doing what you do every day and making the lives
of these adorable babies AND their adoptive parents better through
all of your hard work and generosity. We couldn’t imagine life
without him now ! Thanks for everything, Scout, Honor, Maria &
Sheila
I
am writing to tell you how thrilled I am to have Tex as part of my
family. I started out fostering Tex and I fell in love with him. He
is the sweetest, most loving, and fun boy around! I want to thank
everyone at Ho-Bo Care who made this possible- Marita, Sandy, Kathy,
Cynthia and Glenn. You all do such an outstanding job of rescuing,
taking care of, and finding permanent homes for these wonderful dogs.
Tex enjoys going for rides in the car, going to the park, and snuggling.
Tex enriches my life everyday and I have all of you to thank for the
gift of having Tex by my side. I will continue to support Ho-Bo Care
through donations and any other way I can. This is a fabulous organization
that produces amazing changes for dogs and families forever! Sincerely,
Lisa Francis
Hello,
I've been meaning to send an update on our wonderful dog Oscar, whom
we adopted from Ho-Bo Rescue almost a year ago, in April 2005. He
is perfectly matched to our family, which Marita seemed to know right
away and strongly encouraged us to take him, even though it was slightly
sooner than we were ready. Well, it didn't take long for him to become
a full-fledged member of our family. All he wants to do is give and
receive love - to anyone or anything. That doesn't make him quite
the 'protective' dog that Boxers are supposed to be: he'll greet anyone
at our front door with a wagging back-end and look for an opportunity
to hug them rather than bark at them suspiciously.
Our
kids adore him and they play together quite often. Oscar has to be
whereever they are at all times. He tries to love our 2 cats: he and
our female cat, Fiona became friends pretty quickly. They love to
play - she sits on a high perch and swats Oscar's jowels as he noses
his big block head in her belly. But our male cat Boots tolerates
NOTHING from Oscar. He still hisses at him even after almost a year
of co-habitation. Oscar's learned to steer clear from Boots most of
the time. He has such a sweet and gentle nature - and is not highstrung
as people who've owned male Boxers have said they can be. He does
have some separation anxiety that we've been working on - he usually
comes with us whereever we go in the car, but he has chewed up 3 seatbelts
so far. We've gotten him to be comfortable staying in the house for
a while when we're gone when it's too hot or cold for him to come
in the car with us... but we have to make sure nothing plastic is
around because he'll chew it to bits. He doesn't like to fetch balls,
but he LOVES stuffed animals - good thing our boys didn't like any
of their stuffed rabbits or bears or frogs because Oscar has taken
them all as his: he'll carry them around and run with them, chase
them if we throw them, and then he'll chew them up. He starts with
the plastic eyeballs and then very gently nibbles at the seams to
get into the fluffy inside. We've got stuffed animals in varying degrees
of being chewed up...all over the house. He definitely has lived up
to the lovely reputation of being gassy and a loud snorer, to my husband's
delight: he now can blame most everything on Oscar! Oscar will also
let us know if he's not getting enough attention by whining and carrying
on - he sounds exactly like Chewbacca and it is so dang funny. We
are so grateful to have Oscar in our lives and really appreciate HO-BO
Boxer Rescue dedicating their time to making these matches. Here are
a few pictures of Oscar this past year. Thank you! The Dailey Family

I
adopted "Sugar" -- now Miss Vanna White from HoBoCare in
May of 2004, and I've been meaning to send an update -- I hope it's
not too late. Vanna is my little China Doll; I am so glad I have her.
She's deaf, but she doesn't care, and neither do we (me and her big
brother, Mo). She is a happy little girl with a huge personality and
a truckload of self confidence. Being deaf is such a non-issue for
Vanna. She understands body language, facial expresssions, and hand
signals. She really pays attention to what Mo does, especially if
"cookies" are involved. She's the one who explodes out the
dog door ahead of her brother to meet me when I get home from work.
She's cuddly and playful and incredibly entertaining. We love her.
Thanks Marita. You couldn't have placed her in a better home. - Candice
Here
are two of our boxer rescue dogs and one from a breeder. They make
maximum use of the couch as you can see. The one on the left and on
top is Luther (Junior #2409) and the one on the bottom is Gabby (Clementime
#2512). The one on the right is Zelda, the default mother of the other
two kids. Pat and I usually share the floor. They are really a joy
to live with and we treasure their company. Bob and Pat
I
adopted "Nanna" about a month ago. She
was found, abandoned, with her five day old puppies. When I met her
at her foster mom's house, she was afraid of EVERYTHING and everyone.
The first night at home, I laid on the floor next to her new bed all
evening. That night...and every night since, she has slept in MY bed
with me and my husband and our other dog, Roscoe!
She
and Roscoe have become best of friends and she is like a totally different
dog. She is incredibly playful now, loves to chew on rawhide bones,
plays tug with rope toys and gives kisses now too. I bring her to
work everyday where she has a bed in my office. I work in an Alzheimer's
facility and she joins activities with the residents once a day too.
They have fallen in love with her and she LOVES the attention. We
have renamed her "Hannah."
I want to thank you all so much. We love
this girl so much. Just looking at her sweet, silly face makes my
day brighter.
I
just wanted to write a quick note to the Ho-Bo Care foundation thanking
them for their genorosity and assistance in helping me to adopt Simon.
I adopted Simon a little over a week ago, and he has brought nothing
but joy to our household. He is a wonderful dog who is loved very
much and seems to fit right in with everyone in the home (including
our spoiled 4 year old beagle). I would also like to thank Travis
and his family for allowing me to adopt such a wonderful dog (I know
that it must have been extremely difficult to let him go). Nevertheless,
is extremely noticable that Simon was treated with the best care in
his foster home; furthermore, it shows in his amazing mannerisms.
Thanks again Ho-Bo Care.
Hello
everyone at Hobo Care. We just wanted to send a quick email to let
everyone know that Hopkins (aka Snoopy) is doing
very well and has adjusted to his new home. We rescued Hopkins about
7 months ago and he was been part of our family since. Hopkins is
a great snuggler and is a great nap buddy with his daddy. Thanks for
everything we appreciate all you have done for our family. Thanks
again -- The Abrahams Family (Matt, Terisa, Coleman and Hopkins)
As
promised, here is an update and a few pictures of Bailey (A.K.A.
Mocha). Could you please let Katherine (Bailey’s foster
mom) know she is doing great, and loved very much. When we last spoke
to you, we were having trouble with crate training. Bailey was having
severe anxiety attacks and we felt it was just too traumatic to subject
her to the crate. We took her to our vet and he suggested a mild sedative
to calm her. We tried the meds for about a week; however, it wasn’t
working so we decided to remover her from them. We took your suggestion
and blocked off the kitchen with a baby gate. That also caused a lot
of anxiety, even on the meds. Since we are rarely gone from the house
we, decided to use the honor system with her, leaving her unconfined
when we do need to leave the house. It started off small, maybe 20-30
minutes while we ran to the store or to do small errands. She has
done great. We recently extended it to two hours and the accidents
are becoming fewer. We always leave her with a chew bone and so far
she hasn’t chewed anything else…we pray this continues.
She is doing great with her house training…she is such a smart
little cookie. We work with her daily on her basic commands and she
is learning them fast. She no longer jumps into the cupboard when
I open it to give her a treat...she sits back and waits like a good
little girl.
Recap
of our wonderful encounter with Ho-Bo Care: Three or four months ago,
we started looking for another rescue dog. This was shortly after
our neighbor moved. He’s a police, K-9 officer and works with
my husband…his dog and ours spent most evenings playing and
romping together. Once they moved, Oscar (our rescue from Dream Power;
we’ve had him for almost 3 years) seemed lost. We weren’t
in a rush and really took our time with the decision to rescue another
dog. Sometime in November, we contacted Ho-Bo Care. The initial contact
was made because of a bulldog we saw on the Ho-Bo website. We were
told before we could inquire about a dog, we had to be evaluated and
our home inspected. It wasn’t long before you had us approved
to adopt one of your dogs, and immediately started trying to match
us with our perfect family match. During the first few weeks, Oscar
met a few purebred boxers, and even met one that we thought might
work, but were still a little unsure. Nothing could have been clearer
then the day we went to Denver to meet a puppy named Mocha. There
were five of the most beautiful little puppies in a soft-side crate,
they had just returned from the vet and receiving their first shots…the
minute Bailey walked out of the crate, she pawed at Oscar in a playful
way and it was an instant connection. From that moment, we knew she
was the right dog for our family. They continued to play during our
visit…he didn’t really give the other puppies the attention
he did Bailey…it just felt right. Bailey and Oscar are getting
along great and you would never know they were not originally housemates.
He shares everything with her, including bites of his milk bones.
He is very protective of her, and she follows him everywhere. She
loves to romp and play with him and he is very gentle with her, even
when she is hanging from his ear with her sharp little baby teeth.
When she first came home, she would try to snuggle up to lay with
him and he would get up and walk away; after a few days, he started
letting her get closer. He was never mean to her but didn’t
let her lay with him. Now, they are always cuddled up together in
front of the fireplace.
Last Wednesday, we took her in for her second puppy shot and a checkup.
She now weighs 12.5 lbs…this little girl gained about 4 lbs
since her original visit with the vet two weeks ago…she is growing
so fast. Oscar is spoiled, but has always been a wonderful dog…we
never dreamed we could get luck enough to have another wonderful dog,
and she is following in his footsteps. Bailey has slept with us from
day one and has never had an accident in the bed…she wakes us
up to let us know she needs to go.
Marita, we cannot thank you and everyone at Ho-Bo Care enough for
this perfect family match. She is a complete joy. We haven’t
seen Oscar this happy and active since the neighbor moved away…leaving
Oscar without his buddy. Since the holidays are over, we should have
more time to write and keep you up to date on how Bailey is doing.
We will write again in a few weeks. Thanks so much for all your help.
-- Billy, Rhonda, Oscar and Bailey
Just
wanted to update you on Merlin. Since making Merlin
a part of our family our three daughters couldn't be any happier.
Merlin has made it his personal duty to take head counts every night
at bedtime making sure everyone is accounted for and well. I don't
think our family could have asked for a better match, Thanks Marita
and everyone at Ho-Bo care!
The following pictures
are from Christmas 2005, Merlin had a visit from Santa and loved his
gifts. P.S. the shoe in picture 1 went untouched as dose every shoe
in the house!
