My husband and I have been retired for about 10 years. We haven't owned a dog for about 25 years ever since our kids all got out on their own. So we decided it was time to get us a companion. I was looking thru the paper for Boxer breeders when I seen an ad for HOBO Boxer Rescue. We went down to visit the dogs on a Saturday when the volunteers were spending time with and walking the dogs. After we got home I told my husband this one dog I could not get her out of my mind. So we called and put in our request for Honey. Of course they had to check us out to see if we would be a match. We have been so blessed with our Honey Bee. She gives us so much love and her desire is to be an only dog which is fine with us. We are home most of the time with her, on rare occasion we have had to leave her home alone. We no longer put her in a crate while we are gone. She has the run of the house and has NEVER done anything wrong. We have had to leave a few times for hours and she doesn't bother a thing and is so happy when we return home. My husband has had a couple of major surgeries in the last few months, she shows him so much love and care while he is recovering. She also sleeps the whole night thru on her bed next to our bed every night. We could not have asked for a better dog, she is the best. She has filled our home with love and laughter. We love our Honey Bee.... We adopted her May 24, 2009

Hello- we adopted Pepper on Saturday and could not be happier!! She is an unbelievable dog and I wanted to share some pictures with you all. She has been so lovable and cuddly and listens really well. She has had NO accidents in the house and just whines at the back door if she has to go. She loves her squeaky toys and is learning how to play fetch with a tennis ball. She also loves playing tug of war. We bought her a little soft hippo squeak toy at Petsmart and she sleeps with this. So we call this her "baby". She is recognizing what we are referring to and looks for it. She also picked her own bed out at Petsmart so we had to get it for her, and she loves sleeping in it at home. We have taken her on several walks and she does a great job on the leash. She doesn't pull against you and holds her head up high on her walk. She has been sleeping with our 14 year old and WE LOVE having her as a second alarm clark to get our 14 year old out of bed- as Pepper lets her know it is time to get up :) Oh- and she jumps on the trampoline. First thing she did when we took her off the leash in our backyard. Jumped up on teh trampoline and literally jumped. Our kids thought that was hilarious! We love her very much and couldn't be happier. Thank you!

Dear HOBO care volunteers: I thought I would give you an update on Honeybear (formerly Bailey) and Sugarbear. We couldn't be happier with the perfect match you found for us. Honey and Sugar are the right energy for us and because of that there was really no adjustment issues at all, they joined our house like they had been there their whole lives.

As I told you over the phone Honeybear had a clot in her spine (FCE) about three weeks after we brought her home. Her left hind-leg was completely paralyzed and she couldn't put any weight on it, as well as a paralysis of her bowel and bladder. After about four days she regained her bowel and bladder function, which was a relief since I was having to manually express her. We took her to a canine rehabilitation center and received a list of physical therapy to do with her and put her on the water treadmill (not so successfully). We had buy a dozen or so rugs and make doggy trails throughout the house since she slides on the wood floors. We are now about two months in recovery and she is doing really well, she can walk, run and jump slightly. Since she is walking funny we have to keep a boot on her because she wore down her toenail to the quick. She is still weak on the left side and walks a little funny, but she is very happy to be able to go on walks again (she ! was getting very restless).

Sugarbear also had a little medical issue about two weeks after Honeybear. His toes on his left paw were red and swollen, he was in a lot of pain and wouldn't put any weight on it. We took him to the vet and they put him on antibiotics and pain medication, after a week on the meds the toes didn't look any better so back to the vet we went. They put him under and took x-rays and biopsies, which meant my bathroom remodel was a little delayed. He had a big bandage on his foot which he was not fond of, but having it wrapped seemed to make it less painful and he would walk on it. After a week the biopsies came back as squamous papilloma, which they think is viral so they gave us a z-pack. The z-pack worked (the next step would have been a genital warts cream!) and he is back to jumping and boxing in the backyard.

Despite the medical issues we are so happy with Honey and Sugar! They are so loving and are wonderful with all the visitors we have, although we are working on not licking everyone's face and crawling into everyone's lap (especially Sugarbear), we have successfully stopped the jumping when people come in, but they just can't understand why people don't want dog slobber on their face. They love their daily walks and Honeybear will whine at us when she's ready for her walk. We took them to the dog park for the first time and met another boxer from HOBO care. Sugarbear was in heaven playing with the other dogs, we could have left and he wouldn't have cared. Honeybear loved it too, but came over to us to check in regularly. We have also been working on some training (sit, stay, come) and they pick up on it very quickly, although Sugarbear can get distracted easily. They love to snuggle on the couch and I will never be able lounge alone on the couch again since Sugar! bear follows me to whichever couch I'm on, but I can live with that.

Thank you so much for listening to our wants and needs and matching us with the perfect dogs!

Attached are some recent photos of 'Isis' (aka. Baby Girl) and her new sibling 'Jackson' (adopted 2/15/09 @ Dumb Friends League).

When we adopted 'Isis' (aka. Baby Girl) we were unsure of her reaction with our two cats, and at first kept them seperated completely. It only took a few weeks to teach her that the cats were not 'scooby' snacks and that she couldn't eat them. She learned very well and very quickly, and has been able to roam the house freely ever since. She had been previously adopted two other times, so we expected some bad behavior. However, we have not had anything above the normal dog behavoir with her. She is so loving and smart. She loves to play and run (really really fast) in the backyard. She is very strong and tone. She loves her Natural Balance diet, especially with the soft Liver food added to it. We are trying the Avoderm now and it seems as though she loves it even better. Plus the Avoderm soft food doesn't get hard in the fridge, so it's easier to mix with the dry food.

We do work and our children are in school so Baby Girl does have to stay home by herself for several hours during the day. Even though she has adjusted to this schedule quite well, we are believers that everyone deserves a friend to play and keep company with. Last week we received a call from Dumb Friends League stating they had a white male boxer about 1.5 yrs for adoption. We took Baby Girl and went to visit him on Saturday. They got along right off the bat and were busy sniffing and talking to each other. 'Jackson' came home Sunday afternoon, after having his alteration surgery on Sunday morning. They are both so happy to have one another and push their noses into each others necks when they want to play. Baby Girl is anxiously awaiting for Jackson to heal from his surgery so they can really play like boxers do. In the meantime, she is helping to watch over him.

Sorry HoBo Boxer Rescue... She's a keeper and won't be returning at any point within our power.

We just wanted to let you know how much Hobo care has blessed our family, not once, but twice. I have always been a small dog person. My husband started to work nights and wanted a big dog in the house for protection. That scared me because we have three children and I didn’t want a dog that I couldn’t trust around my children. My husband suggested a boxer because they are protective of their families, but that they are suppose to be good with kids. I started to read up about them and we decided to go with a boxer. We found Ho Bo care online and like that we could give a good dog a good home! We put in our application and received our home visit and a boxer to go and visit with in a few days. We fell in love with Bowzer right away. He was gentle with our kids and so excited to play with us. We took him home and he amazed us from the beginning. He is the best dog that we have ever known. We have had Bowzer for almost a year and he has been wonderful, but he was missing the companionship of another dog. We had no question on were we would get another boxer. Hobo again blessed us with another boxer. Bella came to us with some social problem, but she has a great heart. We have had her for three weeks now and she has made great improvements. She is now house trained, does not jump up on people and has no problems with jumping fences. All of these she had a hard time with in the past. She is a gentle loving dog, who Bowzer loves and we do too. She is a great addition to our family. Hobo care has matched us with two perfect dogs for our for our family. Thank you so much for our Dogs we love them so much!!
